US States and Capitals Flashcards (All 50)

About this deck
Fifty cards, one for each US state, listed alphabetically from Alabama to Wyoming. The state is on the front and its capital city is on the back.
States and capitals are a standard part of fourth and fifth grade social studies in many US schools. The deck is also handy for adults brushing up before a trip, a quiz night or the civics portion of the citizenship interview.
Print the cards and sort them by region, or study them here and let spaced review bring back the ones you miss.
Study tips
- Study by region (New England, the South, the Midwest, the West) rather than alphabetically; neighbors are easier to remember together.
- Flag the states whose capital is not the best-known city: New York (Albany), California (Sacramento), Illinois (Springfield), Florida (Tallahassee), Pennsylvania (Harrisburg).
- Use a blank US map: say the capital as you point to each state.
- Make up a quick sound link for hard ones, such as "Pierre" for South Dakota (pronounced "peer").
