Our Free-Forever Promise
Every feature is free, there's no account, and there's no paid tier waiting behind a limit. Here's why that's sustainable and what we promise not to do.
- 100% free
- No sign-up
- Nothing uploaded
Why it can be free
Most flashcard services run servers that store every user's decks, handle logins, and sync between devices. Those servers cost money for every person who signs up, which is why a free tier usually comes with limits.
We built this differently. OnlineFlashcardMaker is a static website: the same files are sent to everyone, and all the work โ editing, studying, importing, generating PDFs, building Anki files โ runs in your browser on your device. Your decks are stored in your browser, not on our servers. Shared links carry the deck inside the URL itself.
So an extra user costs us almost nothing. Hosting static files is cheap, and that's what lets us keep everything free without needing you to pay or sign up.
How we cover costs
Guide articles may show non-intrusive ads. That's it โ no other page has them.
- Never in the editor.
- Never in study modes.
- Never in print previews or on printed PDFs.
- Never on shared or embedded decks.
We won't use pop-ups that block the page, auto-playing video ads, or ads disguised as buttons. Where the law requires it, you'll see a consent choice before personalised ads are used.
What we will never do
- Put a feature you're already using behind a paywall.
- Add a card limit, deck limit, or print limit.
- Require an account to use the tool.
- Upload your decks or notes to read, sell, or train models on. We don't receive them in the first place.
- Add watermarks to your printed cards or exported files.
- Lock your data in. Every deck can be exported as JSON, CSV, Anki .apkg, or Quizlet-importable text.
What "free" doesn't include
Because there's no account and no server copy of your decks, there's also no cloud sync and no way for us to recover lost data. If you clear your browser storage or lose the device, the decks go with it. Please export a backup file now and then โ it takes a couple of seconds.
Optional features that download files, such as OCR language packs or the on-device AI model, use your own bandwidth and storage. They're opt-in for that reason.
If things change
If we ever need to change how the site is funded, the features that exist today stay free, and we'll say so plainly on this page with the date of the change. Your existing decks stay on your device regardless, and the export options will keep working.

A tool, not a funnel
We think a flashcard maker should be something you open, use, and close โ not a sign-up funnel. So there are no "create an account to save" prompts, no trial periods, and no emails, because we never ask for an email address. Everything you make is saved automatically in your browser.
If the site is useful to you, the best way to support it is to tell a classmate or colleague about it.
Frequently asked questions
โบIs there a premium plan?
No. There's one version of the tool and it's free.
โบDo you sell my data?
No. Your decks are stored in your browser and never sent to us, so we don't have them to sell.
โบWill I see ads while studying?
No. Ads may appear on content pages only, never in the editor, study modes, print screens, or shared decks.
โบHow do I keep my decks safe?
Export a JSON backup file from the app. Import it on any device or browser to restore your decks.
