Primer Sight Words Flashcards (Dolch Kindergarten List, 52 Words)
Showing question
About this deck
The primer list is the second Dolch sight word level: 52 words such as "all", "they", "want" and "there". It is commonly used in kindergarten, after children are comfortable with the pre-primer words.
The front of each card shows the word. The back shows a short sentence using it, which helps with words that look alike, such as "was" and "saw" or "there" and "three".
Study on screen with audio, or print the deck and keep it in a box with "learning" and "known" sections.
Study tips
- Put look-alike pairs (was/saw, on/no, went/want) in the same session so the child has to look closely.
- Ask the child to use the word in their own sentence after reading it.
- Use a quick daily review of known words, and only add new ones when the review goes smoothly.
- Write each tricky word in sand, shaving cream or with a finger on the table to add a movement cue.

Frequently asked questions
›How many primer sight words are there?
The Dolch primer list has 52 words. This deck includes all of them.
›Is "primer" the same as kindergarten?
In most schools, yes. Pre-primer is often taught in preschool or early kindergarten, and primer during kindergarten, but the timing varies by school.
›My child mixes up "was" and "saw". Is that normal?
Yes. Reversals like this are common in early readers. Practice the pair side by side and point to the first letter while reading.
